HALESOWEN Town have been handed an away tie in the second qualifying round of the FA Cup at East Midland Counties minnows Ellistown & Ibstock United .

Yeltz booked their place in the next round, a week on Saturday, with an encouraging 3-0 win over Sutton Coldfield Town on Saturday.

Three goals in a 15-minute spell settled the tie – Elliott Turner, Curtis Tilt and Robert Thompson Brown on the scoresheet.

It is a draw that on paper John Hill’s side will be expected to win and boost the coffers of the club with £4,500 up for grabs.

But the East Midlands Counties League has been punching above its weight in this year’s competition.

That fact is not lost on Halesowen chairman Colin Brooks, who said: “It would have been nice to have had a home draw but it is a very winnable tie for us.

“I’m sure John will hammer home to the players that we need to be professional and approach the game in the correct manner and I’m sure we will, otherwise it could be a tough afternoon for us because they have had a couple of good results to get this far.

“The Sutton win was great for us, we’ve been doing okay but have struggled for goals, so to win 3-0 was a boost. The Northern Premier is a better league with better players but John is doing a terrific job.

“The fans have also been great for us turning out in big numbers. It really has been a bit like the old days at Halesowen at times, with how they have come out to support us.”

But before they can focus on the cup, Town must first concentrate on the league with a difficult trip to Ashton United the first obstacle.

“This is a very open league but there are some very good teams in it and Ashton will be no different, it will be another difficult away trip for us,” said Brooks.

l SUBSTITUTE Joe Hull rescued a point for Halesowen by heading home a last-gasp equaliser against Nantwich Town on Tuesday.

The visitors had gone ahead in the 16th minute, when a corner from Max Harrop fell kindly for Aaron Burns to poke home.

Hull then almost won it deep into stoppage time but he headed wide from a Tom Tonks long throw.
