NIKITA Setchell is setting her sights high after winning the GB Junior 14 canoe slalom title, in Teeside, at the weekend.
The 14-year-old Windsor High School pupil also won the National Division One event at the slalom course and is on the brink of a place in the Premier Division.
Mum, Alison, said: “She was absolutely beaming when she won. She beat the closest paddler to her by around three seconds.
“She is coached by GB coach Louise Ramsdale. The Olympics are very much the target but Rio will come too soon as she is not old enough for selection.”
Alison added: “Winning the GB 14 was one of her main targets for the year but to win the division one event was a bonus.”
Already this year, Nikita has won the England Junior Championships, while she was still just 13, and was nominated by her school to represent the West Midlands at the Talent Inspiration Awards, in Manchester.
“The school have been so supportive of her which is great,” said Alison. “They allow her to train which is a massive help.”
