CARL Douglas says he has been handed a welcome selection headache following Dudley Kingswinford's North Midlands Plate victory over Bournville.

DK completed a confidence-boosting 52-15 win last Saturday after the director of rugby used his squad to field a much-changed line-up at Heathbrook.

He now faces some tough decisions ahead of this Saturday's away clash with local rivals Old Halesonians.

Douglas said: "The lads that came into the side really stepped up. It was pleasing to see after we changed the team around and and tried players in different positions.

"Those that came in against Bournville really staked a claim for regular spots.

"It does give me a selection headache. There will be some interesting decisions to be made ahead of the weekend."

The Bournville game saw DK go 10-0 down after just 15 minutes.

However, Douglas' men soon clicked and never looked back.

Full back Ben Brown got the first two tries for the home side, showing guile and agility on the first and speed and cunning on the second when skinning his man to make it 12-10 on 35 minutes.

DK’s third just before half time was all grunt, the forwards taking the well deserved glory, pushing their dominance across the park to go to 19-10.

The second half started just as the first had ended - with DK on top. Another stolen scrum on half way saw TJ Gordon feed the ball to the wing before a grubber kick was put in for Brown to race onto it.

Other winger Donavon Smile then got in on the act, blasting past Bournville’s defence from half way.

Five minutes later, Kieran Pinches at 10 then showed his class, seeing and bursting through a gap from a scrum on the 10 metre line, before feeding centre Green on his shoulder to score his first and DK’s sixth try.

Six soon became seven, Bournville now all at sea and DK able to perform training ground moves from a scrum, Smile the benefactor as he stormed through to make it 45-10.

The half century was then achieved from the restart as Green went over.

Bournville got a little pride back with a consolation try after some good work by their fly half. By then the game was well won.

"It was a really positive performance that also delivered a great result," added Douglas.

"I'm really pleased for the players because they have continued to work hard in recent weeks under difficult circumstances.

"We now need to continue to believe in what we are doing and then deliver on that again. Hopefully the result reminds the players they are capable and that the system works."

DK will have a fully fit squad going into Saturday's game at Wassell Grove (2.15pm).
