TIVIDALE defender Richard Huckfield has been named 2014’s Dudley, Stourbridge and Halesowen News’ Sports Personality of the Year.

The club captain played a pivotal role to lead the team from The Beeches to a brilliant league and cup double last season.

He came out on top following a online poll to highlight the area's sporting stars of the last 12 months.

He said: "It’s fantastic to have won the award, I’d like to thank everyone who has voted for me.

“Although my name was nominated, this is a team effort and everyone at this football club should be extremely proud of the success over the past 18 months."

Huckfield claimed a brilliant 55 per cent of the vote to take the title ahead of Halesowen wheelchair tennis star Jordanne Whiley in second.

Whiley, who became the first British player to win a calendar year Gland Slam, managed to get 22 per cent.

Completing the top three was Halesowen Town forward Ben Haseley with 11 per cent.

Stourbridge shot putter Rachel Wallader and Oldbury's Jodie Stimpson made up the other athletes in the running.
