ANDY Wyton wants to bolster Gornal Athletic's attacking options.

The manager at Garden Walk says he is now targeting a new striker and a winger to aid their push for promotion.

He said: "I am looking to bring in a forward and a winger and am hopeful we'll get them in by the weekend.

"The forwards need more competition to keep them on their toes. They can't feel that they automatically have a place in the team."

The need for more competition in the forward position was highlighted by last Saturday's home draw against Black Country Rangers. The Peacocks failed to take a host of chances throughout the game and had to settle for a point.

Liam Hughes opened the scoring for the visitors after the half hour mark even though they had been reduced to ten men early in the game.

Gornal hit back ten minutes into the second period when Matt Vaughan met a well worked short corner.

Athletic then spurned an array of openings as the contest ended 1-1.

"We battered them and should have won the game," added Wyton. "If we'd have taken our chances then we would have done.

"It is unlike us because as a team we are normally very capable."

The boss said it was also a similar story in last week's 3-1 league cup defeat against AFC Bridgnorth.

Gornal will travel to take on bottom side Shifnal Town this Saturday as they look to return to winning ways.

Wyton said: "I am confident that if carry performing how we have been then it won't be long before we hit a big score.

"If need to make sure we are focused against Shifnal and show them respect."
