CRADLEY skipper Max Clegg has given the new-look Heathens side the thumbs-up.

Clegg, who returned to the track in practice at the weekend, has been handed the number one spot in the 2015 team to defend the National League title.

He will also take over from Paul Starke as the club’s new skipper as they prepare for life at Perry Barr after losing the use of Wolverhampton.

Clegg will be joined by Nathan Greaves and Matt Williamson from last season’s all-conquering side and Luke Harris is also included after making some guest appearances.

Ellis Perks, Aaron Mogridge and Mike Neale are the new signings and Clegg says they are looking good.

He added: “This year’s team is looking good again, and I think once all the boys get settled into Perry Barr we’ll take some beating.

“I’ve got full confidence in the team the management have put together, we’ve got some really talented lads and I think we should be in with a good chance of retaining our league title.

“It’s going to be difficult, and some of the other teams definitely look strong, but we are aiming to win the league again and I think we can do it.

“We’ll be looking to start the season well to get some momentum early on, and I’ll be trying to play my part as captain to lead by example.”

Clegg will be unveiled along with the rest of the Heathens side as they host a season launch night at the Copthorne Hotel, Brierley Hill, on Wednesday, March 11 (7.30pm).

Tickets costing £5 have now gone on sale for the event, which will take place following the clubs’ press and practice day at Perry Barr earlier in the day. They are available from the club website or from the club shop at Printworx, Quarry Bank High Street.
