DUDLEY Town claimed a vital 3-2 victory over Malvern to edge themselves away from the West Midlands League drop zone.

Shawn Devonport hit the winner in the final five minutes after the Robins had twice come from behind last Saturday.

The away win lifts Dudley into 15th place and further clear of the relegation battle.

Chairman Steve Austin said: "It was a great win for us.

"The players were very disappointed after the previous weekend's defeat against Pegasus Juniors and were determined to put that right.

"It was a very wet pitch and the conditions were very tiring, so to come back twice and then get the winner showed real character."

After going behind in the first 20 minutes, Dudley hit back just before the break when Devon port bagged his first of the game.

Lee Smith, captain for the day, then levelled once more after Malvern had re-established their lead early in the second half.

Finally, with time running out, Devonport pounced to take all three points back to the Black Country.

The Robins are set to take on league leaders Sporting Khalsa tonight before travelling to Willenhall this Saturday.

"We go into the Khalsa game full of confidence but the big game for us is Willenhall.

"If we win that then we should be well away from trouble and can look to push on for a mid-table finish," added Austin.
