HALAS Hawks Under-16 girls team had their cup adventure ended at the hands of Coventry City Ladies last Saturday.

The team had made it to the semi-final of the FA County Cup but faced a tough challenge against their opposition who play in the Central Warwick League.

Coventry had won their previous two games against Solihull Moors and Coventry girls 12-1 and 9-0 respectively.

However, a spirited showing saw the Hawks lose 5-0.

Manager Dave Thomas said: "I'm very proud of our girls. We held them for the first half an hour, they were a bit shocked to be honest, expecting an easier ride I think, but Coventry managed to grab two goals before half time and it knocked the stuffing out of us.

"Our girls still battled in the second half, but Coventry, who train three times a week and have some girls in their team who may well play for England in the future, showed their class in the end. It was a very respectable scoreline considering the gap in leagues between the two teams."

The girls are still doing really well in their own league, the Stourbridge and District Football League at under 16 level, and have the opportunity to claim silverware this season.
