STOURBRIDGE Director of Rugby Neil Mitchell says he is relishing this Saturday's clash with league leaders Ampthill and District.

He believes the contest offers his squad the perfect chance to put a difficult season behind them and show just how close they are to the top sides in National League Two North.

"There is a buzz about the place again," said Mitchell. "We are going out to win against Amptill.

"I believe we have the beating of them and everyone is looking forward to the game.

"They have some experienced players in their line-up but we have some younger players and can hopefully move them around.

"The pressure is all on them where as we can go out and enjoy it and show what we are capable of.

"No-one will want to take us on at the end of the season. I think we are now capable of beating anyone in this league and we want to prove that."

Stour go into the game full of confidence after back-to-back victories all but secured their place at this level next term. They had been close to being dragged into a relegation scrap as the injury-hit campaign began to take its toll.

Mitchell's men backed up the recent win over Broadstreet with a comprehensive 48-19 away success at basement boys Stockport last Saturday.

After having to work hard in defence in the early stages, Stour eventually took control of the contest

Tries from Toby Handley, two each for Stef Shillingford and Mark George and one for Stef Cooksammy and Gary Dipple gave the visitors maximum points.

Once again, Caolan Ryan was in fine form with the boot to slot over a penalty and five conversions to bolster the scoreline.

"We had a slow start but eventually got well on top," added Mitchell.

"In the end we were running in try after try, which was good to see after a few occasions when we have been guilty of not taking our chances."

However, Stour have been handed a big injury blow ahead of this weekend's clash with news that young tight-head prop Jack Spencer, on loan from Gloucester, has suffered a serious knee injury.
