A GOAL either side of half time saw BNG FC Handsworth enjoy their first league victory of the season to the dismay of Eastfield.

The Beacon League match was played in heavy and blustery conditions, and despite hitting the woodwork Eastfield were unable to breach the BNG defence.

Handsworth were awarded a corner which was cleared initially before the rebound found the back of the net.

The second half saw Eastfield try to find a way back but instead saw a BNG double their lead from the spot for a 2-1 away victory. On target for BNG were Johnny O'Hogan and Victor Odofa.

Meanhwile, Springvale Steelers Cougars held Ellowes Hall for the first twenty minutes before a defensive error saw the visitors take the lead.

A Cougars back pass to the keeper saw Dan Lucchesi take possession of the ball, round the keeper and put Ellowes ahead.

Cougars looked for a way back but a corner gave Tom Stanaway his first goal of the match as Ellowes went in 2-0 up at the break.

The second half found Cougars unable to find a way back into the game as a penalty appeal was denied, and Ellowes broke away and scored through Nathan Phillips to go 3-0 up.

Tom Stanaway scored his second goal as Ellowes stormed further ahead. A missed spot kick for Ellowes saw Cougars grab a consolation thanks to Mitchell Wenlock, before Tom Stanaway completed his hat-trick and ensured Ellowes took all three points in a 5-1 win.

It was honours even as Sportsman played hosts to Thimblemill Recreation. Neither team could find a goal as Thimblemill's goalkeeper and defence put in an excellent shift to keeps Sportsman out.
