DUDLEY Town chairman Steve Austin says everyone at the club is raring to go ahead of this weekend’s campaign curtain raiser.

The Robins kick off the new season in the West Midlands Premier with an away trip to Smethwick Rangers this Saturday.

Austin thinks Town are as strong as they have been for some time after successfully keeping last season’s squad together and adding a host of new arrivals.

He said: “It is all systems go now. Everyone is looking forward to getting the season off to a good start. That is our main aim.

“We currently have competition in every position and have done really well during the pre-season and can take confidence from that as the real action gets underway.

“It’s an exciting time. Everyone is fit and keen to get playing now.”

Dudley’s pleasing pre-season programme continued with a 2-2 draw against Rushall Olympic at The Dell last Wednesday.

Northern Premier League side Rushall are managed by former West Bromwich Albion favourite Richard Sneekes, who briefly played for Dudley Town during his illustrious career.

Town’s first three games of the season are all away from home. Trips to Willenhall and Bewdley on August 12 and 15 respectively follow the Smethwick opener.

The first game at the Dell will be against Pegasus Juniors on August 22.
