MANAGER Martin Thomas says Lye Town's FA Cup exit was a tale of missed chances.

Town drew last Saturday's clash with Coventry Sphinx 2-2 before crashing out 2-1 after extra time in Monday night's replay.

Thomas was left to rue a host of missed opportunities in front of goal.

He said: "The game should have been out of sight in the first half of the first leg.

"We had the chances to win it but didn't take them. We only have ourselves to blame.

"It was the exact same story in the reply as well.

"Even in extra time we had the chances to go through but just couldn't convert.

"At the end of the day, that can happen in football. The main thing is we are getting in the positions to score.

"We have been banging them in in the league but it didn't happen for us in the cup again."

Lye will now return to league action against Walsall Wood this Saturday.

However, they are sweating on the fitness of a host of players.

Nicky Pugh, Jack Pearlman, Dan Flowers, Ben Love, Simon Williams, James Spray, Sam Beasley and Sam Rock all have soft tissue injuries and face late fitness tests ahead of the weekend.

Thomas said he will be moving to bolster his squad with another forward, two defenders and a midfielder in light of their injury concerns.
