CRADLEY boss Will Pottinger says they have added motivation heading into the second leg of their Knockout Cup semi-final with King’s Lynn at Perry Barr next Wednesday (7.30).

The Heathens have seen their future placed in jeopardy after the announcement they are searching for new management and their current consortium will not be continuing to run the club in 2016.

Pottinger is now desperate to see them overcome the Young Stars and ensure their Perry Barr showdown is not the last time the famous Heathens race jacket is seen on track.

Pottinger said: “We know there is a chance that this could be our last meeting, so I guess there is an added motivation for us there.

“We are still hopeful someone will come forward and we’ll be able to continue next year, but we know there is no guarantee so we are desperate to try and extend this season.

“We’ll be doing everything we can to make it past King’s Lynn and into the final against Eastbourne.

“Regardless of what the future holds we want to end this season on a high, so we are certainly looking to try and go all the way and win the Knockout Cup.”

Meanwhile, Heathens star Matt Williamson has spoken of his shock at the management’s decision to stand down.

“The news was a real shock to be honest, but I can understand how it’s happened,” Williamson said.

“I know it must be hard for all the management with their other commitments, they’ve worked hard to keep the club going and they deserve a lot of credit for everything they’ve done the last few years.

“It’s such a shame because we had two great years and everyone just expected us to be able to do the same this year.

“That was never going to be the case, you can look at any sport in the world and it’s never possible to win everything every single year, it had to end at some time.

“Even though we haven’t dominated like we did we’ve still been up there and competing for trophies, so we haven’t had a bad season.

“Unfortunately a lot of people seem to have just given up for some reason which is disappointing, and it’s a real shame things have turned out that way.

“A lot of clubs never win things and go years without success, but we’ve won everything we could the last two years and it’s only this season things haven’t gone as well.

“It’s frustrating that people have given up on us, but I guess that’s the way it is and it’s up to us to try and prove them wrong by winning the KO Cup to end the season now.”
