LYE Town's lack of discipline led to a third straight Midland League defeat this week when losing out 2-1 to both Boldmere St Michaels and Shepshed Dynamo.

Unlucky Lye were left with a mountain to climb against Shepshed on Saturday when goalkeeper Jake Bedford was sent off for retaliation.

To make matters worse, Shepshed scored from the resulting penalty, with Matt Langton then adding his second goal just minutes later before Croatian striker Dreniz Bala bagged a late consolation for Lye.

Bala was handed his second red card in three games on Tuesday night as Lye were beaten at Boldmere. Again Lye found themselves 2-0 down, Ben Wilkins picking up some crumbs of comfort with a late consolation.

Bala's dismissal signals Lye's fourth red card in as many games with Joel Caines having also been sent off recently and chairman Brian Blakemore admitted: "It's annoying - because all these red cards have been avoidable and I've made my feelings known to the management.

"We're having a spell at the moment where things haven't been going for us, some of which have been of our own fault.

"Against Boldmere, we dominated the first half but didn't have anything to show for it. And as you know, teams don't dominate for the entire 90 minutes and Boldmere came back at us."

To complete an unhappy evening at Boldmere, Sam Beasley, who has returned to Lye following a brief move to Alvechurch, suffered a gashed head following a sickening clash with his own player Alex Dallison, which left Beasley unconscious for a while.

Lye will wait to see if he recovers in time for Saturday's trip to Leicestershire side Bardon Hill in the Midland League.

Busy Lye have also added Tipton Town full back Ton Rann to their ranks following the recent arrival of Adam Meacham from Cradley Town and Blakemore added: "We've probably got the strongest squad we've ever had a Lye. Now we just need a change in fortunes."
