A STALWART of the midlands sport scene has been honoured for hitting a remarkable half-century at Enville Cricket Club.
David Thomas collected an award from the current Worcestershire captain Daryl Mitchell to mark 50 years continuous service as both general secretary and fixtures secretary.
Mr Thomas’s long service began in 1962 when he became fixtures secretary at the Hall Road club and has overseen its development to boast four competitive Saturday sides, a junior and youth section which includes age groups from under 8 to under 19 plus Sunday and mid-week teams.
Mr Thomas also played a major part in securing club funding for sight screens, covers and more recently new changing rooms, an equipment store and a major pavilion refurbishment.
Enville Cricket Club cricket development officer, Paul Grainger, said: “David’s contribution to Enville CC over the past 50 years as secretary, groundsman, coach, fundraiser and player has been immeasurable.
“Without his input the club would not be where it is today.”
