FRESH from his 56-second stoppage of Michal Voskya on Saturday, Jason Welborn has been added to Black Country Boxing and Hatton Promotions’ co-promotion at Walsall Football Club next month.

Welborn impressed on his return to the welterweight division at the weekend, blowing away the normally durable Vosyka inside a minute.

That fight took place at The Deco in Northampton and, after stopping his man with a stiff straight right, it was an early night for the Rowley Regis boxer. As a result, the 29 year-old has been added to ‘May-Hem’ which takes place in the Stadium Suite at Walsall FC on Saturday, May 14.

“Jason was very impressive and clinical on Saturday night,” explained manager, Errol Johnson. “He’s back with me at Wednesbury Boxing Academy and is working with the same nutritionist as Kell Brook. He’s in excellent shape.

“I’ve always told him that welterweight is his division. He’s big and strong at the weight and can really bang. This is the first fight he’s had at welterweight since he fought Frankie Gavin for the British Title over three years ago. He can be a real force in this division; the key is to make sure he stays busy.”

Welborn joins stable-mate Martin Gethin on the May-Hem card. The former British Lightweight Champion makes his long awaited ring return following his loss to Tommy Coyle in March 2015. Since then, Gethin has undergone minor surgery to repair his perforated eardrum and, like Welborn, will be looking to impress in a different division. Gethin will campaign at super lightweight from now on.

Also on the card are Ricky Hatton trained duo (Wednesbury welterweight) Sam Evans and (Nantwich heavyweight) Nathan Gorman. They appear alongside unbeaten prospects Kieron McLaren (Stoke super lightweight) and Chad ‘2 Slick’ Sugden (Newark super middleweight).

Tickets are £30 for standard unreserved seats and £60 for VIP tickets which includes table service and a two-course meal. Call the Walsall FC Ticket Office on 01922 651 414 to book.
