HALESOWEN athletes travelled to Nottingham last Sunday for the first fixture of the upper age group Youth Development League.

Josie Oliarnyk had two solid events, placing first in both her under-17 200m A race in 25.2s and winning her under-17 long jump with a leap of 5.79m – giving her a personal best.

Molly Jenks won the under-17 200m B race with a time of 26.4s and also competed in the 100m A race, taking second place in 13.0s.

It was a double win in the under-17 girls 800m with Katrina Simpson winning the A race in 2.19.3 and Fliss Robertson-Shore winning the B in 2.32.2.

In the 1500m Steeplechase, Lily Higgins ran and hurdled her way to second place in a time of 5.37.1. Chloe Chapman also claimed a second place in the under-20 400m, completing the lap of the track in 60.1s.

Lee Wright had an excellent under-17 throws competition, winning the discus with a 4m lead (24.96m). He took second in the shot-put (11.54m) and second in the hammer with a PB of 40.29m.

Sam Chance won the under-17 javelin event with a PB of 45.03m, going on to place first in the B shot-put competition with a throw of 10.14m.

Charles Hilliard had a couple of close events, placing second in the under-17 100m, although the time was awarded the same as the winner from Birchfield (11.2s). He then also lost out on a win by 0.1s in the 200m to another Birchfield athlete, taking second in 22.5s. Ryan Shippy placed second in the under-17 100m B race in 11.8s.
