HAGLEY maintained their unbeaten start to the season in Division One of the Worcestershire County League with a winning draw against Droitwich Spa.

Hosts Hagley won the toss and elected to field to begin the clash last Saturday.

It didn’t take long for James Russell and Amjad Ali to send Droitwich’s top order packing.

Max Young (19) and Jake Young (7) were first back before Connor Grant (0) and Jordan Renau (4) followed.

Paul Bryan offered some resistance with a 34 before Neil Hurst claimed his wicket.

Phillip Thomas, batting at eight, top-scored with 37 as Spa ended on 162-8 from 50 overs.

Hagley’s run chase did not start at all well as James Spavin (0) and Joe Lennon (8) soon fell.

However, Michael Stead (27) and Amjad Ali’s unbeaten 36 steadied the ship as the hosts had to be content with the winning draw.

Hagley will face Stourport away this Saturday.

Meanwhile, Belbroughton’s first XI were unable to build on the previous weekend’s win as only 10 overs were possible before their match with Worcester was washed out.

Their seconds recorded a morale boosting win at Worcester. The experienced Rob Hawk claimed 6-56 as the hosts were restricted to 186 before .In reply, Richard Dunn made 26 before Andrew Mackenzie (83 not out) helped them over the line.

and Richard Wrigley (64 no) took them over the line.

This week, the first and second XIs both take on Pedmore, while the third XI begin their campaign at home to Romsley.

Pedmore bounced back from an opening-day defeat by claiming a winning draw at home to Burghill, Tillington and Weobley CC.

The hosts ended on 206-6 from 26 overs after being put into bat. The visitors finished on 177-4 from 24 overs.

Pedmore will host Belbroughton on Saturday (1pm).

Oldswinford and Stourbridge Social sit bottom of Division One after suffering their second successive loss.

They were defeated at Colwell last Saturday after being bowled out for just 63. They will look to get back to winning ways at home to Worcester Nomads.

In Division Two, Lye failed to back up an opening-day success when falling to defeat at home to Redditch. They will now go to Worcester Dominies this Saturday.

Enville suffered a losing draw from a rain-reduced game at home to Coombs Wood. They go to Redditch this Saturday.
