CRADLEY Speedway chiefs say their showpiece individual event of the year has all the makings of being the best of the modern era.

The Dudley Stroke Association Golden Hammer has been arranged for Tuesday, August 9 at Monmore and the club are planning added attractions for children along with free admission during the school holidays.

Club co-boss Gary Patchett has pulled in seven former Heathens favourites – including heroes of the two title winning seasons – to go with today’s top three.

And reigning champion Adam Ellis will defend his title with new sensation Dan Bewley also included.

Heathens fans are sure to give a standing ovation to Tom Perry, Paul Starke, Steve Worrall, Nathan Greaves and Matt Williamson who all return to Monmore after enjoying glittering spells in the green, red and white.

Said Patchett: “It’s a wonderful line-up and it has all the makings of being the best and most entertaining Golden Hammer since the club was relaunched in 2010.

“Nobody has left this club because they wanted to and when I spoke to all the lads about coming back to do this meeting they jumped at the chance.

“When we plan the Hammer we actually get a lot of requests from riders wanting to be considered for the meeting, many of which we have to turn down sadly.

“It’s in the school holidays and it’s a great opportunity for the family to come down and enjoy a night of live speedway.”

Fans can watch the meeting in style from the Monmore restaurant which will be open for the event. Table reservations can be made for two courses at £12 by email info@cradleyheathens.co with a big demand expected.

Admission is £15 adults, £12 concessions, free for children. Season ticket holders can attend for just £5 on production of their pass at the turnstiles.

Meanwhile, Heathens are back in action this weekend when they head to Eastbourne on Saturday in league action and then Buxton in the cup on Sunday.

The next home meeting is the second leg of their cup tie with the Hitmen on Monday, June 13.

Confirmed Golden Hammer rider: Ashley Morris, Luke Chessell, Max Clegg, Tom Perry, Adam Roynon, Paul Starke, Steve Worrall, Nathan Greaves, Matt Williamson, Lee Smart, Ben Morley, Dan Bewley, Adam Ellis, Simon Lambert.
