COOMBS Wood’s first XI maintained their promotion challenge with a comfortable eight-wicket win over struggling Alvechurch last Saturday.

Batting first, their hosts could only muster 130 in 34 overs, with the wickets being equally shared between a well balanced Wood attack.

In reply, Mike Langford and Dave Meehan saw The Wood home within 27 overs. They travel to Wormelow this Saturday.

Meanwhile, a shoddy bowling display from the second resulted in Worcester stacking up a formidable total of 268-8 in 42 overs. In reply, Wood never really got close and were dismissed for 214 inside 33 overs. Pedmore are this weekend’s visitors.

The thirds bowled Pedmore out for 100, and then reached their target within 24 overs with only three wickets down.

Carl Jones hit 47 for The Wood, while Chris Swancott and young Jack Wigley starred with the ball.

They take on Belbroughton this Saturday.
