WOLLASTON Lawn Tennis Club (WLTC) have achieved impressive success for both its men's and women's teams in their summer campaign.

The club, which has seven of its teams competing in the Staffordshire Summer Leagues, has seen four of them winning their individual leagues and promotion to compete at the next level.

Their men's B team achieved what is thought to be their highest ever points score of 49 from a possible 56 points in Staffordshire Division 6 South.

The team, which was unbeaten through the season won 11 of their 14 matches, drawing the other three.

Despite this impressive total, they only clinched the title in the final match by a two point margin.

WLTC men's C team were also pushed hard, this time to win the Division 7 South title. The team, who were also unbeaten through the 14 match season achieved 40 points in their first season together, fought hard in the early matches with four draws in their opening four games.

From this point the team won seven of the remaining 10 games to ensure they kept Wednesbury in second place to take the top spot. The team should now be promoted to Division 6.

With the Ladies Teams, the C team had an impressive haul winning seven of their 10 matches beating second place Streetly by six points in Division 3 South.

The D team had a much closer run having to beat Wolverhampton E team 3-1 in their final match to secure the Division 4 South title.

This is a wonderful achievement for four of the seven adult teams to both win their leagues and secure promotion to higher divisions for the next summer season. It has also seen several players experiencing league tennis for the first time. The club are looking to forward to competing in the Winter leagues too.

Men's Captain Alan Hughes said "The success of Wollaston Tennis Club team tennis this summer has been based not only on ability but also a commitment to represent the club in competitive tennis".

The Club competes in the Staffordshire Leagues - playing clubs as far away as Cheslyn Hay, Streetly and Stoke. Each team plays each club both home and away throughout the summer months.
