HIMLEY skipper and coach Ben Smith is desperate for his side to finish the season with a strong performance at Smethwick on Saturday.

Having watched their last couple of Birmingham League Division One games against Dorridge and Bridgnorth washed out by the weather, Smith is anxious the season doesn't bow out on a damp squib.

Smith admitted: "The last two weeks have really hurt us. It's left Himley sitting fifth in the league table, but we could still finish up eighth, which seems to sum up the season!

"We could have waited until 4-50pm which is the latest you can wait for a 20 overs game to take place, but there seemed little point as the outfield was very wet.

"It would be lovely if we could finish with a complete performance as we've not put all three disciplines of batting, bowling and fielding together for long enough.

"One thing I've discovered this season is the fact the wickets have been more bowler friendly. It has now become easier to defend a low total and that is something we may have to look at next season."

Smith expects to field a strong side at Smethwick which should include Worcestershire's Tom Kohler-Cadmore.
