OLD Hill have appointed former player Jonathan Wright as their new captain in a bid to bounce back following relegation last season.

Wright spent 14 years at Haden Hill before going onto skipper Kidderminster for several seasons in the Birmingham League Premier Division.

The experienced Wright still has strong family connections with Old Hill and said: "Following relegation from Division One last season the club felt it was time for a change of direction.

"I've done my time as a Premier Division player with nothing else to prove and taking up the role at Old Hill will probably be my last challenge."

Wright takes over the captaincy from Danny Cox and has been quick to praise his predecessor.

He said: "Although Old Hill were relegated, people need to appreciate what a good job both Danny and outgoing chairman Bob Jones did for the club off the pitch.

"They have strengthened the club's financial position considerably to the point where they are in a much better position than they were four or five years ago and that shouldn't be forgotten.

I really hope Danny remains at the club."

Wright has already reinforced the side by bringing in prolific batsman and left arm spinner Ravi Nagra together with another former player Duncan Willetts who is a wicketkeeper-batsman.

Wright revealed: "Duncan moved to the London area and played for Blackheath. He was part of their side which won the National Knock Out a couple of years ago".

Busy Wright is also looking to recruit a couple more players but aims to keep and develop the core of the existing squad adding: "Promotion is the immediate target. We will be looking to get the club back into Division One as quickly as possible."
