CRADLEY Town striker Carl Whyte produced a different side to his game this week when he took over in goal against Bilston Town and promptly kept a clean sheet.

Whyte was drafted into action between the posts while regular goalkeeper Richard Kennedy was abroad.

Manager Andy Wyton revealed: "I drafted in a goalkeeper for the midweek game at Ellesmere Rangers, but it didn't work out.

"Carl came up to me after the game and claimed he could play in goal for the following game at Bilston.

"I knew he'd kept goal on a Sunday morning so I agreed to let him play there.

"I told him I'd get some gloves, but Carl turned round and said, 'don't worry about that, I've already got two pairs'!

"He did really well to the point where I think Richard Kennedy's place could be under threat."

Cradley went onto clinch a 1-0 win at Bilston courtesy of a spectacular 78th minute lobbed goal from Croatian marksman Dreniz Bala but Wyton insisted: "We should have won by four or five considering the chances we missed."

Wyton was more miffed over the 3-2 defeat at Ellesmere.

He revealed: "We didn't arrive at the ground until 7.15pm because of the traffic and as a result, we hardly had anytime to warm-up.

"Consequently we found ourselves 2-0 down in the first 10 minutes and I think some of the players were still in the changing room!"

Cradley entertain fourth placed Malvern Town this Saturday and then host third placed Wolves Casuals on Tuesday.

Wyton added: "I've got a full squad to select from and it will be a real test to see how far we've come."
