Lye Town 2, Leamington 0
ROBYN Hingley overcame an injury scare to score a goal in each half for Lye ladies who saw off Leamington to move up to second place in the league.
The Lyeonesses’ first goal arrived shortly before half time and in spectacular fashion with Hingley hitting the ball from fully 20 yards, and striking both posts before going in.
A scrappy game which saw Lye rarely troubled at the back, however a number of stoppages – including fully thirty minutes in the first half for treatment to the Leamington keeper – punctuated the game and Lye found it difficult to build momentum and break down a stubborn Lions back four.
Breathing space was achieved mid-way through the second half with Hingley meeting Hannah Boxley’s right wing cross first time to drive inside the near post first time from near the penalty spot.
Lye were then able to shuffle the squad for the remaining 25 minutes, with bright contributions from Anna Dabek, Hollie Ridge and Rhiannon Bate, allowing captain Katie Priest to continue her recovery from a hamstring strain ahead of the visit of league leaders Burton Albion next weekend.
The game against Burton has additional spice as they could be crowned league champions should they win, however Lye will be looking to preserve their highest ever league position.
The game takes place at Crestwood School, Kingswinford, as the regular Stourbridge Road ground is unavailable for the final home game of the season.
