CAPTAIN Greg Wright says Himley did everything but win their opening Birmingham League Division One clash with Moseley.

Wright's men suffered a four-run home defeat last Saturday but the skipper is determined to take the positives from the performance.

He said: "We really should have won the game. We were disappointed at the end because I think we did everything but win it.

"We dominated from the start and the game was there to be won.

"We have a very young side and it could be a really exciting season for us based on that. There are loads of positives for us to take."

Himley limited visitors Moseley to 201-6 from their 50 overs after winning the toss and choosing to field.

Abdullah Awan (69) and Aadam Din (47) gave Moseley a solid start before they were removed by Stuart Wedge and Elliot Hopkin respectively.

Hopkin again struck to remove number three Ali Awan for a duck before Chris Boroughs got in on the act to claim the scalp of John Williams for six.

Jamie Turner bagged the wickets of Steven Sandhu and Iman Kang to limit Moseley further.

In reply, openers Tom Kohler-Cadmore (25) and Wright (34) gave the hosts a solid start but it couldn't be build on and Himley soon found themselves in trouble mid-way through the contest as they fell to 132-6.

Stuart Wedge (22) and Jamie Turner (31) combined to claw back their chances of the win and make for an exciting finish to the day.

However, it wasn't to be as Ali Awan and Naqaash Tahir cleared up the tail to hand Himley and opening day defeat.

Wright added: "I was really pleased with the bowling attack. It was a 240 wicket so it was pleasing to limit them. We just didn't chase well enough in the end.

"One of the top four, including myself, needed to go on and get a big score but we didn't build on the starts we got.

"We looked out of it at one point but then came back. In the end we just didn't hold our nerve.

"There are a lot of young Himley lads that have come through the ranks and they will learn from the game. It was nice to come off knowing we were the better side even though we didn't get the win.

"We will look to build on that moving forward."

Himley go to Walmley this Saturday (noon start) and should have Sri Lankan all-rounder Nipun Karunanayake available to make his debut.
