SKIPPER Greg Wright has targeted more improvement after Himley secured their first success of the season with a narrow win over Walmley.

Himley won by just two runs after a thrilling finish in Sutton Coldfield.

Wright hit 91 from 101 balls before being removed by Tom Pyke to break up his vital partnership with number three Chris Boroughs (46).

A debut 63 from seventeen-year-old Callum Lea also helped Himley to 291-7 from their 50 overs after being put into bat.

Walmley openers Carlos Prowse and Peter Shackleford put on 110 for the first wicket as the home side went looking for the win.

James Brocklebank, batting at three, then smashed 81 as the hosts got on top.

However, the bowling Stuart Wedge (4-35) drew his side back into the contest to set-up a thrilling finish.

Youngster Adam Finch then claimed the scalps of Jonathan Newis and Jordan Hoffman before expertly negotiating the final overs to see his side to a narrow success.

Wright said: "We got ourselves into a brilliant position at half time but maybe became a little complacent and took our foot off the gas.

"We had lost it with 10 - 15 overs to go but then fought back really hard.

"We batted beautifully but then didn't bowl to the plan we talked about and also dropped four or five catches, despite our ground fielding still being good.

"In the end we put in some really outstanding individual performances from both our older and younger players and held our nerve fantastically to get the win.

"The previous week we lost a game we should have won and they (Walmley) will probably feel the same this week.

"The obvious thing to look to now is being able to put both our batting and bowling performance together at the same time.

"We have showed how capable we are with both the bat, ball and in the field and we know we can give anyone a game in this league. There are a lot of positives again for us to build on.

"One thing we need to do is nail our opportunity to kill teams off."

Wright also highlighted the performances of youngsters Lea and Finch.

"Callum Lea's performance with the bat was really pleasing, especially because he took his chance on debut. Then Adam Finch was trusted with the death overs and go the job done.

"They are both young lads and complimented the performance of Stuart Wedge to really give us something to look forward to moving forwards.

"They are making it an easy side to captain and an enjoyable side to play in."

Himley will look for successive wins when they welcome Leamington this Saturday (noon start).
