ROWLEY Regis’ Tyler Denny will take on the unbeaten Matthew Wigglesworth in six-round action at the Venue in Dudley next month.

Denny has been paired with ‘Warpath’ Wigglesworth for fight night at the high street establishment on Saturday August 5, writes Craig Birch.

Someone’s ‘0’ must go for a winner to be crowned with both men undefeated in professional boxing. Denny has six wins, Hull’s Wigglesworth three with two draws for each.

The show has been titled ‘Knocked for Six,’ as Denny and Dudley’s own Les Byfield are featuring over a six-round distance.

Middleweight Denny and super feather Byfield keep up their record on appearing on every pro card together going into their ninth outing, four of those coming under the Venue lights.

Brummies Kane Baker and Daryl Pearce, from Bartley Green and Rednal respectively, also occupy the home corner in the welterweight division, as does Nottingham’s Ekow Essuman.

Denny topped the bill at the same venue on June 9, outpointing Anthony Fox after eight rounds to lift British Challenge honours.

The 26-year-old now has his sights set on the vacant Midlands crown, which could be contested between him and West Bromwich’s Tom Stokes later in the year.

First he must see off Wigglesworth to stay in the hunt and implores the Yorkshireman to take his best shot, as he targets another scalp.

Denny said: “I just want to keep busy and it’s better to have this six-rounder than waiting around for another title shot and not doing anything.

“Anthony Fox came forward a lot in my last fight and I learned from that, so something similar this time would be great. I want someone who is coming to win.

“I won the Challenge belt, but that’s not the end for me. If I want to get to where I want to be, I need to keep on improving.

“The whole experience was great, even making the weight the day before. That’s behind me now and I move on like it’s never happened.

“What I do strive for more of is belts, middleweight is a tough division but that what’s makes it exciting. As long as you keep winning, the big opportunities will come.

“I’ve learned from the two draws, mostly to put that bit extra in to make sure of the result. I felt like I came on strong in the last round against Fox.

“I want to fight for the Midlands title and I’ll take on anyone to do it. There’s plenty of names out there, but I’ve just got to focus on me.”
