LYE Town were undone by a goal from legendary striker Lee Hughes this week.

The former West Bromwich Albion marksman netted the only goal as Lye lost 1-0 to Worcester City in the Midland League Premier Division.

Lye boss Craig Harris said: "Lee Hughes is the same age as me - but he still knows where the net is at 42.

"His goal proved the difference in what was a very competitive game played in front of a big crowd.

"I know I'm beginning to sound like a broken record, but the lads gave me everything and worked their socks off again against a very good Worcester City side who I think are good enough to go on and win the league.

"They are the best side we've faced this season and although they had a bit more quality than us, but they certainly had no more heart."

The game was an occasion to forget for Alex Solomon who made his return to Lye's ranks after being out for several weeks with a thigh injury.

But his comeback lasted little more than five minutes when he sustained a suspected broken bone in his shoulder following a collision with Worcester City goalkeeper Nathan Vaughan.

Solomon is due to undergo a scan this week to access the extent of the damage.

Lye look to get back into winning ways this Saturday when they entertain Highgate United at Stourbridge Road.

Harris hopes to unveil new signing Nathan Stone who has arrived from Brierley Hill based Smethwick Rangers.

The Lye boss added: "I've watched Nathan play and he's a very exciting prospect. He' plays in a wide role and is someone who can certainly make the step up to Midland League level."
