BROMSGROVE tennis players proceded to dent Halesowen's Worcestershire League title hopes after pulling off a close victory in their Division 11E contest.

Martin German and Craig Horton claimed first blood for Bromsgrove Men's G team with a 6-3, 6-3 success.

Fabrice Vincent and Paul Douglas found the going much harder against favourites Halesowen and finally missed out on a third set tie break.

But Vincent and Douglas bounced back to win their second match 6-4, 6-2 before Horton and German went down 3-6, 1-6 to leave the game level on rubbers at 2-2.

The extra set won by Vincent and Douglas was to prove decisive and enough to provide an overall win plus bonus point to help cement Bromsgrove's mid-table position.

Bromsgrove Ladies C side didn't fare well at all against a powerful Halesown A side who proved too strong in their Division Four E affair.

The youthful pairing of Cladia Bullock and Gemma Calthorpe opened with a battling defeat following a close third set tie break, but from that point, Halesowen held sway to run out emphatic 4-0 winners.

This result puts Bromsgrove C in danger of relegation, especially with a critical match coming up against Droitwich.
