ANDY Wyton has resigned as manager of Cradley Town.

The former Dudley Town and Gornal boss said he stepped down from the role after having his budget cut at the Beeches.

The matter came to a head when his requests to bring in new players were turned down.

The club, which sits in 10th place in the West Midlands Premier League, will now be looking for a new manager to take charge into the end of the season.

The resignation also follows the recent departure of academy coach Wayne Mundon.

A club statement read: "It is with regret that we have to announce the resignation and departure of first team manager Andy Wyton.

"Andy has been with the club since 2016 where he joined as joint manager but then made the step up to be the sole manager of the club towards the end of the 2016/2017 season, guiding the club to 10th position after a bad start to the campaign in that season.

"Andy has worked extremely hard in his role this season to build a team capable of beating any side in the West Midlands Premier Division on its day but he felt the time was right to move on and look for other opportunities, which we completely understand.

"We would like to place on record our sincere thanks and gratitude to Andy for all of his hard work and would like to wish him the very best for the future."

The club will now be looking to appoint an interim manager before starting the search for a new boss for the 2018/2019 season.

Anyone wishing to apply for the position are asked to do so the club through the Cradley Town FSC website page.

Meanwhile, set-pieces proved Cradley’s Achilles heel as they suffered a 2-0 defeat at home to Wolverhampton Sporting in Wyton's last game on Saturday.

The Hammers found themselves behind at the break after defender Jak Barnes headed home from a corner.

The visitors wrapped up the spoils in the second half when full-back Giles Harvey rose highest to again head beyond Cradley keeper Rich Kennedy following a free-kick into the box.

The managerless Hammers have not won for four games and will look to hit back when they go to Wolverhampton Casuals this Saturday
