TIPTON light heavyweight Ricky Summers put in a solid display as he topped BCB Promotions’ ‘Time To Shine’ bill at Walsall Town Hall on Saturday night.

The 30-year-old was due to fight for an IBO Continental Title but a late pull out meant Summers took on Bulgarian Teyar Mehmed over six rounds, writes Daniel Mole.

Digger boxed well behind a solid jab to record a 60-53 win on referee for the evening Martin Williams’ scorecard.

Summers now has his eyes on a shot at the English or British strap.

Fellow English Title contender, Halesowen super middleweight, Lennox Clarke, was also in action.

The 26-year-old was due to challenge English Champion Darryl Williams on the postponed Billy Joe Saunders versus Martin Murray bill last weekend but, following an injury to BJS, has saw that chance postponed until the summer.

Clarke stepped in to keep active and took on Wilmer Gonzalez. He punished his Nicaraguan opponent after Gonzalez came in almost a stone over the 12st 4lb agreed limit; stopping him inside a round.

There was disappointment for Dudley middleweight Ryan Aston who slipped to defeat at the fists of Wiltshire’s Anthony Fox.

After a decent opener, Aston looked in control of proceedings but Fox bit back in the second and dropped Aston with a stiff right hand in the third. ‘Tank’ was quickly on his feet but couldn’t stop Fox taking the fourth round to record a 40-37 win.
