CAPTAIN Greg Wright has praised his Himley "unit" after the pacesetters claimed victory over Bromsgrove.

Bowlers Adam Finch and Chris Boroughs were again responsible for getting Himley off to a brilliant start last Saturday, just as they had done against Barnards Green the week before.

The duo had Bromsgrove reeling at Stourbridge Road as they quickly removed the visiting top order to set up the success.

Euan Wentworth and Stuart Wedge also got involved as the Boars were bowled out for 187.

Only a fine unbeaten 90 from youngster Jack Taylor kept Bromsgrove in the contest.

Himley lost Bilaal Hussain (27) and Boroughs (34) in their reply but a fine 81 not out from opener Oli Westbury and an unbeaten 34 from skipper Wright guided them home and maintained their good start to the new Birmingham and District League Division One campaign.

It also means Himley now head into the 55-over format in fine fettle.

Wright said: "It's all about the plans we make. It was great for everyone the way we executed those plans against Bromsgrove.

"The bowlers did really well and it was a credit to them the way they bowled to those plans, but it's all about the unit as a whole.

"It's also about the fielders and everyone making sure we build the atmosphere and pressure. We did everything really well.

"We lost our discipline a little and did let them back in the game a touch but it was still a very good wicket.

"Other than that it was a really solid performance."

Wright now wants to build on Himley's good start when they go to Bridgnorth is Saturday (noon).

He added: "We are not used to being in this position so early on. It's now all about keeping our feet on the ground because there are still areas that we need to improve.

"It's good to be heading into the 55 over stuff but I don't think we are as reliant on it as we have been in other years. It has been a concious effort to play both well.

"Hopefully we'll still be strong though, especially when we get our overseas player in, which should be in a couple of weeks.

"Bridgnorth are a good side and a team that we have a lot of respect for. They have done well so far this season and it'll be a big challenge for us. Hopefully we can keep everyone fit now and keep improving."
