JOSH Banks says confidence is high at Stourbridge ahead of their clash at Old Hill this Saturday.

Stour went joint top of Birmingham and District League Division Three thanks to last weekend's comfortable home success over Newport.

The hosts made 263 after winning the toss and choosing to bat.

Jujhar Johal's fine 84 and Banks' unbeaten 67 made sure the visitors from Shropshire faced a tough challenge at Amblecote.

The score was boosted in the final overs as Banks teamed up with Dwayne Crossgill (35 not out) to plunder 59 runs from 42 balls.

Strong Newport opener Maisam Hasnain Jaffri (24) was one of three wickets for Jitesh Jivan-Patel before Crossgill bagged a five-wicket haul to help his side to the win.

The 161-run victory maintained Stour's unbeaten start to the new campaign and a bullish Banks is keen to keep building.

The skipper said: "We wanted to have a bat and set them a decent target.

"We did that and then got the job done. It was a really clinical performance from us and I was really impressed with it.

"We bowled tightly with the new ball and as soon as their opener went I really fancied us to go on and win it.

"Everything is going well and I think I've got most of my angles covered at the moment.

"We go into the Old Hill game quietly confident, which we should do after the start we've had.

"We know they are a good side though and that they've strengthened well. We'll have to make sure we're focused."

Stour will face Old Hill at Haden Hill (noon start).

They could be boosted by the return of seamer Dan Such after he missed last Saturday with a back injury.
