SKIPPER Josh Banks says Stourbridge are looking forward to this Saturday's top-of-the-table clash with Rugby at the War Memorial Ground.

Stour went top of Division Three of the Birmingham and District Premier League thanks to last weekend's 100-run success over Pelsall.

They now host second-placed Rugby looking to extend their advantage at the top.

"We don't know a lot about Rugby because we haven't come up against them before but it's a game everyone is looking forward to. We've done really well this season and we'd back ourselves against anyone."

Stour have no major injury or selection worries ahead of the weekend (noon start).

They climbed to the top after bagging maximum points at Pelsall.

Asked to bat first, Stour’s opening pair of Harshad Patel and Juhjar Johal put on a steady 53. Johal held the innings together on a tricky track as Stour struggled to 139 for 5.

Patel was bowled by the pace of Dan Wale and Johal was eventually caught for 65 off spinner Ryan Brown.

Banks made a go of it, but he was Wale’s second victim on 24 before the prospect of a low Stour score hastily disappeared with the 105 seventh-wicket partnership between Nathan Crudeli and Dwayne Crossgil.

Crudeli smashed 79 off 52 balls with seven fours and six sixes.

The double hundred appeared diminutive as Pelsall openers counter attacked at a rate of eight runs an over. Tom Boyd’s 64 came off 49 deliveries but when he was trapped lbw by Johal, the spinners quickly assumed control.

Four more Pelsall wickets fell before a heavy shower halted Stour's charge to victory and resulted in six overs being lost. After the rain Tom Wright (18) and Danny Pennel (12) delayed the inevitable as the home side fell 100 runs short of the target.

Johal took the bowling honours with 5-17 off 13.5 overs to add to his batting prowess.

Banks said: "The performance was good but was a bit in and out at times.

"We were happy with our total but at one stage they were around 80 without loss and going along nicely. We had to change the bowling around a lot, take the pace off it a bit and eventually we got the wickets we needed.

"It sent us top and sets us up nicely for this weekend."
