HALESOWEN and former Halesowen Academy riders dominated last weekend's regional championship road race.

The contest was held at a hilly Astley circuit, near Stourport, with several laps giving a total distance of 93 miles.

Riders with links to HA&CC dominated the results to take all podium spots, with first place going to former club rider Jack Stanton-Warren.

Stanton-Warren, an academy rider only three years ago, has steadily progressed and is now knocking on the door of a top 20 national ranking. He attacked early on to get away with one other rider on the first lap, building a substantial lead and then dropping his companion in a dominating performance.

In the other placings, Callum Ferguson, another ex-Halesowen rider took second and Matt Clarke, who has been racing for Halesowen this year, completed the podium.

Clarke has come back to Halesowen after injury and benefitted from the guidance and support shown by the club and Will Fotheringham, who has been so instrumental in setting up the Halesowen Academy.

He has now recaptured his Category One road licence and will be looking to build on this success as he leaves to join the Wheelbase team.

To complete the high placings, Charles Walker, another former rider to don the purple, raced well to take eighth place and Cameron Biddle 13th.

In Newport, an evening race ‘Nocturne’ was held. In an elite women’s event, Kinga Ingram took a strong 12th place which placed her as first in the youth category to build on her strong season so far.
