MANAGER Gary Hackett isn't getting carried away despite Stourbridge's strong start to the season.

The Glassboys made it an unbeaten start to the campaign in the newly-formed Southern League Central with a late winner against Rushden and Diamonds last Saturday.

The hosts came from behind to win 2-1 at the War Memorial Ground thanks to goals from Greg Mills and Leon Broadhurst.

Veteran Broadhurst struck in injury time to hand his side all three points and make it seven points from their opening three fixtures.

However, Hackett says he won't read too much into their unbeaten start, especially ahead of a tough weekend that sees them travel to Coalville on Saturday before hosting rivals Halesowen Town next Tuesday night (7.45pm kick-off).

He said: "You just want to try and get as many points as possible on the board until you're 10 games in. Then you can have a look and assess where you are.

"It's still early days and of course people will get carried away but it really is too early to start speculating yet.

"There is still room for improvement from us and I'd still like to add one or two players just to keep everyone on their toes and to spice it up a little."

On the Rushden win, he added: "We had to be patient but in the end I think we fully deserved the win."

The manager was full of praise for the way Broadhurst continues to step up when the Glassboys need him most.

He said: "Leon did what Leon does. By his own admission, he didn't have the best game. I thought about bringing him off but then we got a corner and you know he has the knack of popping up with a goal.

"He has that ability to be in the right place at the right time and he did that once again for us."

The boss now wants his players to maintain their fine form heading into a tricky double.

"We have two tough games ahead of us now.

"The derby is always a big game and I think the results between us have been pretty even over the last few years. We were disappointed with the league game here last season when we got hit on the break twice and were left chasing the game. It would be good to put that right."

Aris Christophorou could be fit for Saturday but fellow full-back Darryl Westlake is still 10 days away from a return.
