Rutter problems continue

KINGSWINFORD’S Michael Rutter endured a weekend of thrills and spills in the sixth round of the British Superbikes Championship at Knockhill.

Rutter, who had been hoping to do well enough in Scotland to earn a deal with the Worx Crescent Suzuki team for the rest of the season, spent far too long off the bike than on it.

Twice in free practice on the Friday he crashed and then rain prevented him setting a good time.

He did have more luck in qualifying 24 hours later - posting the fourth fastest time to secure a place on front row of the grid.

That was as good as he could only finish in 11th place in race one, some ten seconds behind the winner, Leon Camier.

He performed better in race two, running in fifth place on lap 21, only to crash out.

Rutter has collected 36 points in six outings for the Worx team but has only finished four races.

He will now be sweating over whether he will be kept on for the next round at Mallory Park on July 19.
