Halesowen Cycling Club are ready to put the pedal down on another road racing season.

The purple jerseys of the Manor Way club will be a familiar sight at events up and down the country.

Matt Clarke has moved up to senior and will defend his title in the West Midlands League, while the club also intend to enter a team in the Ras de Cymru, a five-day stage race around Wales.

Team manager Dave Viner said: “It’s a long season but we are pretty positive.

“We have a good group of juniors and seniors who are constantly improving.”

Last Sunday, 16-year-old Callum Ferguson was again the best-placed Halesowen rider as he finished 11th in the Gerry Hughes Memorial Road Race.

Ferguson escaped into a large group which contested a mass sprint. Team-mate Matt Clarke was 20th with Tom Gregory a place further back.
