Dyer and Newman set for Hammer

FORMER Heathens favourites Micky Dyer and Kyle Newman are among the names gearing up for next month’s Golden Hammer.

World under-21 finalist Richie Worrall as well as Stoke duo Ashley Birks and Steve Worrall are in the field for the individual event, which takes place at Monmore Green on July 10.

Reigning champion Kyle Hughes will be back to defend his title and brilliant British youngster Kyle Howarth is also included alongside all the Heathens.

Heathens co-promoter Gary Patchett said: “Micky was so popular with the supporters in 2010 when he rode for us and played his part in us going on a long unbeaten run. He was very happy when I invited him back for the Hammer.

“And Kyle is Kyle, everyone here loves him and he’s a delight to work with. He was also pleased to be asked back.

“When you add in our own skipper Adam Roynon and in-form local boys Ashley Morris and Tom Perry, together with Richie Worrall, you can see we have a great line-up.

“We’ve got the old Cradley Pork Sandwich van back again and we’re planning an autograph session when the turnstiles open. I’m excited about it, I’m sure it’ll be a great night.”

The meeting is once again promoting Dudley Stroke Association and the Face, Arm, Speech, Time message (FAST).

Admission will be £12 adults, £7 concessions and just £1 for children. Season tickets are valid for this meeting.

Meanwhile, Erik Gundersen, widely regarded as Cradley’s greatest ever rider, is counting down the days to his emotional return to the Black Country from his Danish home next month.

Gundersen will meet Heathens fans at a special Evening with Erik Gundersen on Friday, July 20.

The triple world champion said: “I’ve seen how Jan O Pedersen and Greg Hancock have been left buzzing by going back there and meeting the fans from the Cradley days and I can’t wait to come and do the same.”

Almost 300 tickets have already been sold for the evening with the man known as ‘King of Cradley’ at the Venue Conference and Banqueting Suite in Dudley on Friday, July 20.

General admission tickets are available at £10 with the event starting at 8.30pm.

On the track, the Heathens continue their National League schedule with a double header this weekend when they visit Rye House on Saturday and Buxton on Sunday.
