Yeltz boss optimistic

Halesowen Town boss Shaun Cunnington is looking forward to the new season and a fresh start for the club.

The Yeltz kick off their pre-season programme with a friendly at Bartley Green next Tuesday (7.30pm), with a number of trialists expected to line up alongside established players and new signing Ben Steane, who has re-joined the club from Chasetown.

Anthony Bruce is also back at the club after taking a break for personal reasons Halesowen will play in the Northern Premier League Division One South after switching from the Southern League and Cunnington feels this will boost the club’s affairs on and off the field.

He said: “We have got a good pre-season where we will look at a number of potential new players and trialists as well as building up the fitness of the existing ones.

“I’m delighted we have managed to retain so many of last season’s squad, especially with the likes of Ben Haseley and Neil Barnfield attracting attention from other clubs.

“The addition of Ben, along with John Griffin and Chris Seekings will provide good competition for places and I think everyone is also looking forward to moving leagues.

“The Unibond league will be very competitive and still about budgets but I am confident we can do well in it.”
