Weather forces late Hammer postponement

SPEEDWAY fans have been left frustrated after tonight’s FAST Golden Hammer event fell victim to the weather.

Dudley Heathens bosses had remained confident for most of the day the individual event, featuring the cream of the National League, would go ahead as planned at Monmore Green with forecasters predicted a dry evening.

But with rain still falling at 6.30pm and the track waterlogged, they were left with no choice but to postpone the meeting one hour before the scheduled start time.

Heathens chairman Nigel Pearson apologised to supporters for any inconvenience caused.

He said: “Promoters have been criticised in the past for calling meetings off too early.

“We’ve done everything we can and waited as long as possible but in the end the weather has won the day.”

The Hammer will now be rescheduled for later in the season.
