Heathens bring in Birks for IOW clash

HEATHENS have booked Ashley Birks to replace the injured Adam Roynon in Tuesday’s National League clash with the Isle of Wight at Monmore (7.30pm).

It’s a meeting Heathens need to win to secure top spot for the second time in three seasons – and in doing so they will have choice of Play-Off opponents.

Roynon is awaiting further results of tests at hospital after suffering vertebrae damage in last night’s Elite League meeting between Swindon and Coventry.

Birks, who rides for Stoke, readily accepted the booking.

Heathens chairman Nigel Pearson said: “There was a school of thought that we could have gone without a guest, but that would have shown a complete lack of respect to the Isle of Wight.

“We cannot afford to slip up on Tuesday so we immediately approached Stoke and Ashley accepted the booking.”
