NORTON Social A began the Stourbridge Snooker League season in style by beating Pockets SCB 5-0.

Steve Mason, Adam Ness, Ashley Aston, Graham Tomkins and Rob Pitt ensured Norton got off to the perfect start against newly-promoted opponents.

Hot Shots finished third last season but they slipped up at home to a new-look Brierley Hill Sports Bar A 4-1.

West Midland Police began with a 4-1 success thanks to Mark Sheehan, Gavin Sloan, Pete Gibbons and Kev Franklin but opponents Brierley Hill Sports Bar C took a consolation point through Mark Hatton.

First Division: Amblecote RBL had the best possible start, taking all five frames at home to Dibdale SC.

Chris Jevons with a 33 break in his first appearance, Barry Young, Steve Ball, Rob Boylin and Mark Jeffries all won.

Last season's second division champions Stourbridge Inst B began the season of the other promoted team, Brierley Hill Sports Bar D, emerging 4-1 winners.

Kingswinford RBL A, who just missed out on promotion to the Premier Division, had a hard-fought 4-1 win at Wombourne. Only John Wooldridge could win for the home team as Greg Reece.Anthony Davies, Martin Wilson and Andy Brown all triumphed for Kings.

There was also joy for Kingswinford Cons A who beat Kinver C 4-1. Meanwhile, Kinver B were 3-2 victors against Kingswinford SC thanks to their veteran trio of Frank Golding, Arnie Tromans and Ron Smith.

Newly-named Netherton Sports and Social Club, previously the Liberal club, began with a 3-2 victory against Norton B.

Second Division: Baggeridge Social lost their opening match 3-2 at Amblecote Inst C. Luke Whale and Martin Collingridge won for Social but Colin Homer, Graham Lewis and Ray Vanes, who did particularly well to take the decider against Dave Whale, clinched the match for Amblecote.

The other two Amblecote teams faced each other with the D team taking all five frames against the spirited E players.

Nick Aston of Stourbridge Inst C had most wins last season and won again at Kingswinford Cons B along with Carl Green but the home team’s captain Lee Wragg squared the match at 2-2 before Leigh Bennett won a tight decider against Simon Tyler.

Kinver Constitutional D, having moved from Wombourne, started well with a 4-1 success against Kingswinford RBL B.
