Titans finish first year with trophy
10:00am Saturday 13th October 2012 in Sport
STOURBRIDGE Titans capped their first year of baseball by winning the Midlands Minor League tournament.
The Thorns Community College-based side beat Milton Keynes Bucks at Leciester’s Western Park, in a competition which featured all five teams from the Midlands AA League.
Games were played over three innings and Stour’s passage to the final was secured with a 13-8 win over Nottingham Rebels.
Feeling confident, the Titans played without fear and made a high scoring start thanks to patient batting from the top of the order and steady hitting, scoring five runs in the first inning.
Controlled pitching from Jose Infante del Orbe allowed Stour to limit the Rebels.
The final saw starting pitcher Stuart Walton return to the mound, teaming up with player-coach Shaun Healy at catcher.
Batting first, the Titans again made a positive start and scored three runs in the first, while restricting their opponents to a single base runner.
Further success arrived in the second with hits for Walton, Healy and Kevin Wilson adding a further five runs.
By the middle of the third, the Titans led 10-1.
Then Walton closed out the victory in style as he struck out out the first three Bucks batters.
