Rowe keen to keep Gornal grounded
5:00pm Thursday 25th October 2012 in Football
IAN Rowe says red-hot Gornal Athletic must keep their feet on the floor.
The Peacocks boss is relishing the “feelgood factor” around the Garden Walk at the moment, with his team settling in nicely to life in the Midland Alliance and set for a good run in the FA Vase.
Rowe described Saturday’s 1-0 win at previously unbeaten Stourport Swifts as one of the best performances since he took charge in the summer of 2009. But he dismissed any talk of a possible title challenge and says the players can’t to get carried away.
He said: “It’s good time at the moment, no doubt about it. The whole club is on a high.
“I was really proud of the lads on Saturday, they really stood up to the test and it was a superb win.
“But we can’t afford to get too carried away.
“I know all too well in this game you are only ever 90 minutes from disaster. We’ve just got to keep ticking over and see where it takes us but we aren’t going to win the league, Stratford are too strong and there are other sides I have not seen yet.”
Gornal head to Coleshill Town on Saturday but will be without the suspended Pete Wood.
Gurdip Wilkhoo and Kristian Green are unavailable while Jake Morgan is struggling with an ankle injury.
Rowe admitted his biggest problem is keeping everyone happy.
He said: “It’s a bit of a juggling act making sure everyone gets enough time on the pitch.
“If I’m honest it can be a bit of a headache. I’m more than aware most of my players can get a game elsewhere.”
