Trevalen must fight for place - Wyton

ANDY Wyton has told James Trevalen he will have to fight for the number one jersey at Dudley Town.

The former Tividale keeper has re-signed for the Robins following the departure of Tom Harper to Bewdley Town last month.

Trevalen left Dudley last summer and after failing to find another club, has been limited to appearances in the Kidderminster League.

With Aaron O’Malley impressing between the sticks since Harper’s departure, boss Wyton says Trevalen will bring competition for the position.

He said: “James was fantastic for us last season but first he has to get fit.

“Ideally we would be looking to play him in cup games, though whether we can give him those games with the way the weather has been remains to be seen. It will put a bit of pressure on Aaron who has played very well since becoming our number one.”

The Robins were left frustrated on Saturday when their much-anticipated derby clash with Lye Town was postponed due to a waterlogged.

Weather permitting, Town will visit Bustleholme this weekend, while Lye are pencilled in for a trip to Wednesfield.

Dudley Sports have been boosted by the news striker Matt Hearsey will remain at the club after turning down the latest offers from other clubs.

Both Tividale and Welsh Premier League outfit Newtown both lodged seven-day approaches for the hitman, who has already scored 20 goals this season.

Sports joint boss Tony Gore is philosophical about the weather-enforced break.

He said: “At least it is prolonging our cup runs. If this weather keeps up we may get through to the last week in January still in three cup competitions. That would be almost unprecedented!”

Sports are scheduled to host league leaders Black Country Rangers this Saturday.
