Heathens hit back in style
3:30pm Thursday 29th August 2013 in Football
HEATHENS bounced back to winning ways in emphatic style as they thrashed Isle of Wight 60-31 at Monmore Wood.
Just 24 hours after suffering their first defeat of their National League campaign at Kent, the Heathens put in a rampant display.
And team boss Will Pottinger was thrilled to see his side back to their best with a powerful showing.
Pottinger said: “It was a lot easier than what we were expecting in the end against a side tipped by many to finish top of the league at the start of the season.
“It was good to put right our loss against Kent, and it was an excellent performance from all the boys.
“It’s good to put in another great showing to keep building our confidence and also add three more points as we look to finish top of the table.”
Lewis Blackbird and Ashley Morris both struck maximums for the home side - combining for entertaining 5-1s in heats 13 and 15 to cap off an excellent evening.
Yet although it was Blackbird and Morris who stole the spotlight it was a strong all-around display from the Heathens.
Paul Starke, Dan Greenwood and Max Clegg all suffered just one defeat apiece with classy performances as the home side accounted for 13 race winners and struck seven 5-1s.
Middle-order man Gareth Isherwood also scored in every outing with a solid showing, and although Nathan Greaves endured a nightmare evening at reserve his team-mates covered his troubles.
