Hagley's title hopes are hammered out of sight
3:44pm Thursday 29th August 2013 in Football
HAGLEY virtually handed Astwood Bank the Worcestershire League title on a plate following a bank holiday hammering.
Star turn Steve Adshead struck 76, while Sam Thomas added a further 77 as Astwood piled on the runs to reach 274-5 before Hagley were skittled out in reply for just 105.
Mike Desmond did most of the damage with the ball by taking 4-20, while Dan Taylor mopped up with 4- 7.
Hagley skipper Paul Morgan said: “It was last Saturday’s defeat to Pershore that really caused the damage. We set them 202 to win and had them at 150-9, but somehow their last pair got them over the line.
“That result probably knocked the stuffing out of us before heading to Astwood Bank.
“We haven’t played particularly well during the second half of the season.
“I’m glad to see the back of last weekend, but we don’t want the season to finish like that — we want to go out on a high.”
n Oldswinford must face the prospect of relegation following their nine wicket defeat to Bromyard.
Lee Nightingale made 101, while Rhys Williams added 94 as Oldswinford reached 272 all out.
It wasn’t enough as Bromyard cruised home in 31.3 overs.
Former Sri Lanka Test international Dinusha Fernando was unbeaten on 146, while Ryan Tongue added 107, sharing a record-breaking first-wicket partnership of 265.
n Pedmore eased to a seven wicket win over Droitwich.
Chasing a total of 206-8, Pedmore replied with 207-3, Jim Musk lead the charge with 74, while Paul Pickering added 50.
n Belbroughton suffered a six wicket beating by Worcester Dominies and Guild.
Ryan Price reached 50 as Belbroughton were bowled out for 173, which Dominies overtook in the 33rd over.
