THE lights went out on Lye Town this week — literally!
One of their floodlights fused just as they were about to take the pitch against Bewdley Town.
Chairman Brian Blakemore claimed: “It was utter frustration. There was only one bulb working on one of the floodlights.
“We got someout out to look at it quite quickly and the problem was identified — but the referee would only give us half an hour to get it working again and that wasn’t long enough.
“It was disappointing for everyone, especially as we had a large crowd there.”
Lye came desperately close to lowering leaders Pegasus Juniors’ colours last Saturday.
The Hereford side arrived at Stourbridge Road with a 100 per cent record from nine starts.
Robin Sheffield put Lye in front just after half time but Pegasus snatched an equaliser four minutes from time through Kane Kahaka.
Lye management duo of Darren Goodall and Martin Thomas missed the game because of a wedding commitment and speculation of their departure proved totally unfounded.
Thomas claimed: “We’ve had a good laugh about that!
“The two points lost against Pegasus felt like a defeat.”
Leading marksman Ricky Anslow was on the bench against Pegasus and could feature on Saturday when Lye host Wolverhampton Sporting Community.
